LAWRENCE, Kan. – Head coach Carrie Cook-Callen announced the Kansas Women's Rowing Team's 2024 fall schedule on Tuesday with two away and two home races as the program enters its 30th season.Â
The Jayhawks start their fall slate with an exhibition race, the Boathouse Battle, on September 27, in Lawrence before hitting the road for their next two races – Head of the Oklahoma in Oklahoma City (October 5-6) and Head of the Charles in Boston (October 19-20). Fall racing will wrap up at home with the 11th annual Jayhawk Jamboree on November 2.
"The commitment to training and racing this summer is already showing in our early practices of the fall. We're excited to train at a higher level amongst some fall racing at home and away," said Coach Cook-Callen.
The rowing team debuted as a club sport on April 3, 1978, before being elevated to varsity status by Kansas Athletics in 1995. Just a year earlier, in 1994, the women's crew placed fourth as a team at the National Collegiate Rowing Championship, with one of its boats winning a national championship. KU Rowing joined Conference USA as an affiliate member in 2009, ahead of rowing's establishment as an official Big 12 sport in 2012.Â
Since then, Kansas has compiled:Â
- 13 First Team Big 12 Selections
- FIVE Second Team Big 12 Selections*
- TWO Big 12 Newcomer of the Year
- 10 Big 12 Boat of the Week awardsÂ
- FOUR Big 12 Championship Boats
- 10 Big 12 Runner-Up Boats
- 19 Big 12 Third Place Boats
(* Big 12 second team selections went away in 2015)
Kansas returns a total of 42 rowers from last season with a large senior class leading the way, including Emma Wistuba who was the lone Jayhawk to land a spot on last season's All-Big 12 Team.Â
All fall home events are free to those wanting to attend and will be held at Burcham Park.Â
