LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the Gans Creek Classic on Friday, September 27, in Columbia, Missouri. The day will kick off with the Division I men's 8K race at 8 a.m. (CT), followed by the men's 8K Open at 9:30 a.m., and concluding with the women's 6K Open at 10:15 a.m.
"We are excited to get back to racing tomorrow, Kansas Distance Coach Michael Whittlesey said. We have had a great block of training since our last race and we are looking forward to seeing it pay off. We are looking for our upperclassmen to have a strong presence in the front and I am excited to see our freshman group perform."
The Jayhawks aim to build on their success from nearly a month ago when both the men's and women's teams dominated in the season opener at the Bob Timmons Classic, August 31 at Rim Rock Farm just north of Lawrence, securing team titles for each. Juniors Tanner Talley and Quenton Walion led the KU men's team, finishing in the top three. At the same time, senior Kenadi Krueger claimed first place and freshman Dorcas Kiptanui impressed with a third-place finish in her Kansas cross country debut.
Representing the men's team in the division one 8K race at the Gans Creek Classic are freshmen Samuel Trumble and Blake Wohler, sophomores Hobbs Campbell, Isaac Graff, Ryo Higuchi, and Lenny Njoroge, along with juniors Cale Littrell, Sawyer Schmidt, and Talley, and Walion. In the men's open race, the Jayhawks will be represented by sophomore Jack Weber, juniors Gabe Birkmeier, Treyson True, and Garrett Wilmes, as well as super-senior TJ Robinson.
For the women, sophomores Bethany Druse and Elena Villarreal, along with junior Alyson Moore, will compete in the women's 6K.
