COLUMBIA MO.- The Kansas Cross Country Team competed in three races at the Gans Creek Classic, securing six top-100 finishes and recording five personal bests in fields with over 300 participants each.
The day kicked off with the Men's 8K Division 1 race, where the Jayhawks achieved a strong 14th-place team finish in a competitive field of 37 teams and 327 participants. Junior Tanner Talley led the way for Kansas, securing 39th place with a time of 23:58.6, shaving over 15 seconds off his personal record. Senior Quenton Walion followed with a new PR of 24:18.8, earning 65th place, while sophomore Sawyer Schmidt rounded out the top 100 finishers for the Jayhawks, clocking a personal best of 24:34.8 in the 8K.
"The men's front group ran well through the 5K," Kansas Distance Coach Michael Whittlesey said. "A little slower than we planned but they moved through the field well and consistently - if we keep them together for the entire race, we will be in a good position."Â

Sophomore Gabe Birkmeier led the Jayhawks with a 77th-place finish, posting a personal best time of 25:30.9, shaving over 42 seconds off his previous 8k mark.
