
Jayhawks Finish Third at Quail Valley Invitational

VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Kansas men's golf team took third place at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational, played Sunday and Monday at Quail Valley Golf & River Club. Kansas scored rounds of 278-274-286 for a total of 838 strokes, which is 26-under par for the tournament.  Â
Memphis won the tournament with a score of 836 (-28), followed by FGCU (-27), Kansas (-26), Northwestern (-24), and Minnesota (-20), who rounded out the top five.
"We finished with a solid day but couldn't quite get the job done,"Â Kansas coach Jamie Bermel said. "The guys fought hard and finished on some tough holes, but at the end of the day, if you want to win you have to execute down the stretch. Another learning day for us, we need to keep knocking on the door and our time will come."
Sophomore Hartej Grewal led the way for the Jayhawks and finished the tournament with scores of 67-70-69 (-10). Grewal has now gone back-to-back tournaments carding three rounds under-par. Grewal tied for fifth place individually, good for his second top five finish of the season.
Senior Will King notched his third top 20 finish of the season, and 18th of his career, with a tie for 16th place at Quail Valley. King finished the tournament with scores of 72-65-73 (-6), while carding 11 birdies and one eagle.Â
Senior Luke Honner finished the event with scores of 69-69-73 (-5) while carding 11 birdies and one eagle. Honner tied for 18th individually in the tournament, giving him his second top 20 finish of the season.
Sophomore Ty Lasley finished the tournament with scores of 70-75-71 (E) and tied for 48th place individually. Lasley carded 10Â birdies and secured one eagle throughout the event.Â
Freshman Arthur Carlier carded scores of 73-70-79 (+6) and finished tied for 70th place in the tournament.
Playing as an individual, Will Baker put together his best tournament of the season. Baker carded a team-high 15 birdies and finished the event with scores of 66-66-71 (-3). Baker tied for second individually, giving him his best finish of the season and his first top five finish as a Jayhawk.Â

The Kansas men's team is set to travel to Maui, Hawaii, to compete in the Ka'anapali Classic at the Ka'anapali Golf Resort on Oct. 27-29.
