LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas Track and Field had an impressive weekend across the board in both Boston and Arkansas, highlighted by multiple personal best-performances and a new 3000m indoor school record by
Tanner Newkirk.
Newkirk, the junior distance specialist, ran a 7:51.89 in the men's 3000m at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational to down the school record of 7:53.08 set by Colby Wissel back in 2007.Â
Joining Newkirk in milestone moments on the weekend was junior
Tanner Talley, who ran his first sub-four minute mile in Boston, clocking a time of 3:58.96 for a new personal best. Talley joins teammate
Quenton Walion as the second Jayhawk to run under four minutes this season, as Walion recorded a 3:59.83 at Mizzou a couple weeks prior.Â
On the Arkansas side of things, the women's pole vaulters had a handful of impressive showings, including a new personal best for senior
Gabby Hoke, who notched a 4.34m jump in the women's pole vault invitational. Freshman
Madi Snody achieved a new personal best in the event as well, hitting a best mark of 4.09m on the day. Senior
Erica Ellis tied her season best of 4.34m as well.Â
On the men's side,
Bryce Barkdull was the leader for the Jayhawks in the pole vault, tying his personal best of 5.31m to take fifth place in a loaded invitational division.Â
Freshman
Madeleine Fey unlocked a new PR in the women's shot put, throwing a best mark of 15.85m on the day. Newcomer Ola Wolczak hit a pair of PR's in her respective events as well, running a 24.47 200m and an 8.74 in the 60m hurdles.Â
Ryo Higuchi clocked a new personal best in the men's 800m, running 1:49.63 to take fifth place in the unseeded division.
Michael Joseph and
Grant Lockwood both ran season-best times in the unseeded men's 400m, while
Josiah Parris clocked a new personal best in the event at 47.63.
Tristan Williams,
Jackson Belding and
Jack Markstrom all unlocked new personal best times in the same event.Â
Brooke Freeman shaved more time off her 200m, hitting a new PR for the third-consecutive meet with a 24.18 in the unseeded division.
Kaleigh Frazier also achieved a 200m PR, running 24.77 to do so.Â
The Jayhawks will be back in action next weekend at another pair of meets, heading to the Arkansas Qualifier in Fayetteville on February 21 and the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Indiana on February 22.Â
