Competed in six meets for Kansas … Opened the season with a third place finish in the mile at the Thane Baker Invitational … Achieved second in the mile with a time of 4:00.58 and fourth in the 800 meters at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational … Broke the school record in the mile at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, winning the event with a time of 3:56.77 … Was part of the DMR team that broke the school record the following week at the Saucony Battle for Boston, finishing in 9:23.44 … Broke the school record in the 1,000 meters at the Big 12 Championship, running the preliminary round in 2:20.74 before eventually finishing second.
2025 CROSS COUNTRY
Ran in all five meets for Kansas … Opened the season with a personal best 6K at the Bob Timmons Classic with a time of 18:30.4 to place sixth … Followed up his 6K personal best with an 8K personal best 24:24.6 time at the Gans Creek Classic, finishing 52nd … Crossed the line in 25:11.3 at the Missouri Pre-National Invitational … Achieved 45th place at the Big 12 Championships with a time of 24:28.1 … Closed the season with a 32:22.2 10K and 59th place at the NCAA Midwest Regional.

Competed six times for the Jayhawks … Achieved a season best 1,500 meter run time of 3:46.49 to place sixth at the Stanford Invitational … Helped his team take gold in the 4x800m at the Kansas Relays … Placed fourth in the 800 meters at the Rock Chalk Classic, finishing in 1:51.24.
2024-25 INDOOR
Competed in five meets for Kansas, mostly running the 800 meters and mile … Began the season with a second place finish in the 800 meter run at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular, crossing the line in 1:52.68 while also finishing seventh in the mile … Had a pair of fifth place finishes at the Rick McGuire Invitational in the 800 meters and mile … Finished second in the 800 meter run at the Steve Miller Invitational, finishing in 1:50.21 … Achieved a season best 800 meters time of 1:49.63 to place fifth at the Tyson Invitational … Scored as the fourth place finisher in the 1,000 meter run at the Big 12 Championship, finishing in 2:21.51 while also helping the DMR team finish fourth.

Competed at six meets for the Jayhawks … Opened with a season best 1,500 meters time of 3:50.94 at the LSU Battle on the Bayou … Placed fifth in the 1,500 meter run at the Jim Click Shootout while helping the 4x400 meter relay team achieve third … Finished in fifth place in the 800 meters at the Kansas Relays and won the 4x800 meter relay … Was the runner up in the 800 meters at the Rock Chalk Invite … Ended the season with a season best 800 meters time of 1:50.09 at the Big 12 Championship.
2023-24 INDOOR
Competed in six different events across six meets … Opened the season with a pair of wins at the Bob Timmons Challenge, running a personal best 3,000 meters time of 8:41.16 and helping the DMR team win … Followed up his pair of wins with another gold at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular, winning the 800 meters with a time of 1:54.86 … Placed third in the mile at the Black and Gold Invite … Ran a season best 800 meters time of 1:52.64 at the Tyson Invitational.
2023 CROSS COUNTRY
Ran unattached in three races … Opened the season with a 16th place finish at the Bob Timmons Classic, finishing the 6K in 19:43.8 … Placed 53rd with a 25:26.01 8K at the Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational … Closed the season with a 121st place finish at the Gans Creek Classic.
HIGH SCHOOL
Holds the Owari regional record in the 800 meters and 1,500 meters, running times of 1:50.27 and 3:53.24, respectivelly ... Took third place in the 800 meters at the U18 National Championships and fourth place at the state championships.
PERSONAL
Son of Manabu and Tomomi Higuchi … Has three siblings, sister Nao and brothers Shun and Rui … Member of the Jack Dicus Business Honors Program ... Plans to double major in Accounting and Finance ... Following college, he would like to compete in world-level competitions as a professional runner and become a pioneer of Japanese middle-distance runners, while also growing his business skills and contributing to society, especially in Japan.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE KU?
I chose to study and play sports at KU because I wanted to grow both academically and athletically. I wanted to focus on middle distance in college, and KU had a phenomenal program, so I believed it was where I could become the best. I have also enjoyed studying abroad and working hard to overcome the challenges with that.
