Opened the season with a fifth place decathlon finish at the Jim Click Shootout with 7224 points, winning the 100 meter dash, long jump and 400 meter dash … Set a personal best discus throw of 42.03 meters (137-11 ft.) to finish 19th at the Kansas Relays, also won the long jump with a jump of 7.40 meters (24-3.5 ft.) and placed 12th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.37 meters (14-4 ft.) … Was part of the silver medal 4x400 meter relay team at the Rock Chalk Classic, also finished ninth in the high jump with a 1.91 meters (6-3.25 ft.) clearance and competed in the long jump … Finished eighth in the long jump with a best of 7.56 meters (24-9.75 ft.) and 31st in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14:94 … Placed tenth in the long jump at the Big 12 Championships with a best jump of 7.04 meters (23-1.35 ft.) and also brought home the bronze in the decathlon with 7629 points. On his way to third he won the long jump and finished third in the 100 meter dash … Qualified for the decathlon at the NCAA National CHampionships where he finished 16th with 7554 points. He won the long jump with a jump of 7.46 meters (24-5.75 ft.) and finished fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.51 seconds.
2024-25 INDOOR (Jr.)
Competed in five meets for the Jayhawks … Opened his junior season at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular where he won the long jump with a mark of 7.42 meters (24-4.25 ft.). He also took sixth in the 60 meter dash, running a time of 6.98 … Placed fifth in the heptathlon with a point total of 5343 at the Rick McGuire Invitational, winning the 60 meter dash … Competed in the high jump and the 60 meter hurdles at the Steve Miller Invitational where he ran a time of 8.35 … Finished tenth in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.40 and placed 14th in the long jump with a mark of 7.09 meters (23-3.25 ft.) at the Tyson Invitational … Set a personal best 5633 points to finish sixth in the heptathlon at the Big 12 Championships, where he won the long jump and set personal bests in the 1000 meter run (2:41.09) and shot put (11.92 meters [39-1.25ft]). He also placed seventh in the long jump with a jump of 7.32 meters (24-0.25 ft.) to close his season.

Started his season at the UCF Black & Gold Invite where placed third in the long jump with a jump of 7.45 meters (24-5.5 ft.), was part of the 4x400 relay that placed fifth with a time of 3:12:79 and placed eighth with a personal best time of 54.01 in the 400 meter hurdles … Won the decathlon at the Jim Click Shootout with a personal best 7629 points. On his way to the gold medal, he won the 100 meter dash, long jump and 400 meter dash. He also set personal bests in the discus (36.86 meters [120-11ft.]), javelin throw (53.49 meters [175-6 ft.]) and 1500 meter run (4:35.83) … Won the long jump with a jump of 7.52 meters (24-8.25 ft.) at the Kansas Relays, also finished eighth in the pole vault with a 4.37 meters (14-4 ft.) clearance and competed in the 100 meter hurdles … Placed sixth at the Rock Chalk Invite in the high jump with a jump of 1.92m (6-3.5 ft.) and finished 11th in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.42 meters (14-6 ft.) … Competed at the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships, finishing ninth in the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays and 11th in the long jump with a jump of 7.24 meters (23-9 ft.) … Qualified for NCAA West First Round in the long jump where he jumped 7.70 meters (25-3.25 ft.) … Qualified for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the decathlon & long jump. Kicked off his sophomore year at the Bob Timmons Challenge, where he competed in his lone heptathlon of the indoor season, recording 5215 points to take second overall. On his way to second place, he won the 1000 meter run, long jump, and 60 meter dash … Placed fourth in the long jump at the 2024 KU-KSU-WSU Triangular, jumping 6.99 meters (22-11.25 ft.) … Ran both the 60 meter dash (6.93) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:12.06, first place) at the Iowa Black and Gold Invite … Competed in the 60 meter dash (6.97) and the 4x400 meter relay (3:12.52, fourth place) at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational … Finished 45th in the 400 meter dash at the Tyson Invitational with a time of 48.47 and placed 11th as part of the 4x400 meter relay team … Placed ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.89 and 12th in the pole vault at the KSU Steve Miller Invitational with a clearance of 4.53 meters (14-10.25 ft.) … Helped his team place fifth in the 4x400 meter relay and finished tenth in the long jump with a 7.43 meters (24-4.5 ft.) jump at the Big 12 Championships to close his season.

He also placed sixth in the 4x100 meter relay and seventh in the long jump with a 7.56 meters (24-9.75 ft.) at the Championships … Punched his ticket to NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon after his debut, ranking No. 24 in the entirety of the NCAA … Competed at the NCAA West Preliminaries in the men’s long jump, where he finished 21st in the preliminaries with a best jump of 7.43 meters (24-4.5 ft.) … Took 20th place in his first ever National Championships, posting three top-five finishes throughout his 6753-point decathlon (10.64 100 meter dash for third place, while his 7.52 meters (24-8.25 ft.) long jump and 47.54 400 meter dash each were good for fifth overall).
2022-23 INDOOR (Fr.)
Made his debut at the Bob Timmons Classic, finishing first in the long jump with a distance of 7.24 meters (23-9 ft.) and seventh in the 60 yard dash with a time of 8.54 seconds … Achieved two personal bests at the KU-KSU-WSU Triangular, one in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.96 to place third and a personal best long jump of 7.33 meters (24-0.75 ft.) to bring home the gold … Finished the 600 meter run in 1:24.24 to place ninth and ran an 8.31 preliminary 60 meter hurdles at the Jayhawk Classic to eventually finish seventh … Finished his first career heptathlon in eighth with 5319 points. Placed second in the long jump and 60 meter dash with a jump of 7.37 meters (24-2.25 ft.) and 6.89 seconds time … Closed the season with a third place long jump at the Big 12 CHampionships with a jump of 7.63 meters (25-0.5 ft.). Also finished seventh in the heptathlon, winning the long jump with a 7.43 meters (24-4.5 ft.) jump and 60 meter dash with a personal best 6.80 seconds time. Achieved a personal best 60 meter hurdles time of 8.26 seconds.
HIGH SCHOOL
Was a nine time letter winner in high school in soccer, track, football and basketball … was a four time state champion in the 110 meter hurdles, meter hurdles and twice in the long jump … had a football game where he scored three touchdowns and 250 all purpose yards.
PERSONAL
Son of Terry and Jody Klein … Has four siblings, a younger sister Taci, an older brother Chad, and two older sisters, Kelsey and Laura … Father, Terry, played basketball at tabor college before graduating from KU Med … Tayton was named a team captain for the 2025-26 seasons … plans to major in Business Administration with hopes of doing professional track and real estate development post graduation.
