Game two against the Oklahoma Sooners was a tough challenge for the Jayhawks, marking the second time Kansas has faced them this weekend. The Jayhawks struggled to generate offense and, despite a strong defensive effort, ultimately fell to the Sooners, 0-8.Â
Game OneÂ
The Jayhawks wasted no time igniting their offense in the first inning. After loading the bases with two walks and a single from junior Hailey Cripe, freshman standout Ava Wallace stepped to the plate. With one out, Wallace belted her first home run of the season—a grand slam to left center—giving Kansas an early 4-0 lead.
In the circle, Kennedy Diggs started strong, quickly retiring the Lions' top of the order with two strikeouts and a groundout, setting the stage for the offense to return to work.
"I think they responded exactly how we talked about this morning. After losing to OU last night, we wanted to make a statement early in that first game, and we did just that," head coach Jennifer McFalls Said. "We weren't focused on who we were playing, we were focused on us. It was a great team effort across the board. We came out swinging, scored early, and that lit a fire in everyone. To go through any team's pitching staff the way we did in that first game was significant and should give some of those kids who don't get a lot of opportunities some good confidence. I also want to highlight Kennedy Diggs, she threw some really quality innings for us. Against a free-swinging team like that, where we don't have a lot of scouting information, she did a great job in the circle."
Kansas continued its offensive onslaught, adding two more home runs and driving in five more runs. Junior Emma Tatum crushed her second home run of the weekend, while Wallace followed suit with another long ball. By the end of the second inning, the Jayhawks led 9-0.
The defense remained sharp in the second inning, with Diggs recording two more strikeouts as she retired the side in order.
Back at the plate in the third, the Jayhawks kept piling on the runs, making it through the lineup once. During the rally, sophomore Kadence Stafford launched a two-run home run, while Natalie Marshall also drove in two RBIs to further extend the lead.
Kansas' defense continued to dominate in the third inning, shutting down the Lions' offense and quickly pushing the game into the fourth inning. The Jayhawks' offensive momentum stayed strong, with Stafford making her presence felt again, hitting a go-ahead triple that led to an RBI.
In the final inning, the Jayhawks capped off their dominant performance with no runs allowed by the Lions. Haley Webb set the tone in the fifth, belting her first home run of the season. After Anna Solea singled, Sara Rozak followed with a hit of her own, and Madi Hays delivered a double to right center, bringing Kansas' lead to 23-0 and sealing the statement victory.
The Jayhawks ended the game with 23 runs, 17 hits, and just one error, dominating every aspect of the game.

Game TwoÂ
The Jayhawks were also up first at the plate in the second game of the day against #1 Oklahoma. Aynless Linduff put up a strong fight in the top of the first, battling to get on base. However, she was unable to reach after hitting a ground ball to the first base side. The Sooners retired the Jayhawks and quickly moved to their defensive half of the inning.
The Kansas outfield was put to work in the bottom of the first. Ava Wallace recorded an out with a spectacular diving play in left field, while Aynslee Linduff added the final two outs after Oklahoma hit two pop-ups to the right side. Despite solid defensive efforts, the Sooners managed to score four runs, leaving the Jayhawks needing to rally from a 4-0 deficit.
Kansas was unable to generate any offense in the top of the second but remained strong defensively behind senior pitcher Olivia Bruno, who replaced Lizzy Ludwig. The Jayhawks recorded three quick outs: a lineout to right, an easy groundout to first, and a strikeout by Bruno to end the inning.
The Sooners added two more runs, one in the third and another in the fourth. Kansas had the top of the order and found themselves in scoring position for the first time, with Madi Hays pinch running for Bailey Amezcua and advancing to second. However, OU retired the Jayhawks, leaving Hays stranded and Kansas scoreless.Â
"Heading into Game Two, I was hoping we could build off that momentum, but OU is tough. When they jump on you early, it's hard to get any momentum back. That said, I thought we did some good things," head coach Jennifer McFalls said. "Olivia Bruno gave us some quality innings in the circle, and right now, we're just trying to find out what works as we prepare for conference play next week. The most important thing now is how we respond tomorrow morning against Marshall and then get ready for Baylor."
Kansas struggled to generate offense, while #1 Oklahoma continued to build theirs. Ultimately, the Jayhawks fell to the Sooners, 0-8.Â
