MINNEAPOLIS – Kansas baseball will take its best start in program history to Minnesota this week when the Jayhawks face the Golden Gophers for two games on Tuesday and Wednesday at U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings. Kansas will be playing in the venue for the first time since the 2022 season and is 3-3 all-time at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Â
"We're off to a good start, but still have a long way to go," Head Coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "Our first four weeks have shown us a lot that we can learn from and improve upon. In the big picture, I like how we've competed and how hard the guys play. Minnesota is a talented team and presents another great opportunity for us to compete."
Â
Kansas has started the season with a 14-1 record, the best start in 135 seasons of baseball at the University of Kansas. The Jayhawks have won six consecutive games and are one of 13 Division I teams with one loss or fewer this season. Kansas has three series sweeps this season, which includes this past weekend that was a four-game sweep of Milwaukee.
Â
The Jayhawks are currently leading the Big 12 with 30 home runs and 99 walks on the season. The 30 home runs are the 13th most in the nation and the 99 walks are tied for the 16th most. KU hit a home run in 10 consecutive games from Feb. 17-March 7. Eight of those 10 games had multiple home runs from the Kansas offense.
Â
Minnesota (6-7) opened Big Ten play this past weekend against Purdue. The Golden Gophers dropped two out of three to the Boilermakers, but they did win their Sunday contest by a score of 10-8. Prior to the series against Purdue, Minnesota had won four out of five games, including winning a series at Arizona State and a victory against a ranked Oregon State team.
