Â
Kansas (14-2) and Minnesota combined to score 16 runs in the first four innings and then neither team scored the rest of the game. The Jayhawks put up four runs in the second inning to take a lead but surrendered five runs in the bottom half of the inning to give that lead back. Minnesota would hold onto that lead the remainder of the contest.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Minnesota (7-7) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. A leadoff walk came in to score on an RBI double by Drew Berkland.
• Kansas responded in the top of the second inning with four runs, all coming with two outs. Brady Ballinger drew a bases loaded walk to tie up the game. Hauge came up next with the bases still loaded and hit one off the wall in right-center field to clear the bases. That gave Kansas a 4-3 lead.
• The Golden Gophers answered back with five runs in the bottom of the second inning. A two-run single, two-run triple and an RBI single put Minnesota back ahead by a score of 6-4.
• The teams traded a run in the third inning as Brady Counsell scored on an error and Minnesota picked up a run on a sacrifice fly. At the end of three innings, it was a 7-5 game.
• Counsell provided offense with his bat in the top of the fourth with a two-out RBI single to score Ballinger. That cut the Jayhawks deficit to 7-6.
• Minnesota picked up three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Berkland drove in another run on an RBI double and Weber Neels brought in a pair on a two-run single. The Golden Gophers led 10-6 at the end of the fourth.
• After an active first four innings offensively, the bats quieted down for both teams. The next four innings were scoreless for both sides. Jake Cubbler, Dalton Smith and Kasey Crawford all had scoreless relief outings.
• Kansas loaded the bases in the ninth inning with one out but was unable to score.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"Obviously, it was not the start we were looking for with our staff. Unfortunately, the first couple guys we went to didn't stop the bleeding. I actually thought that we did a pretty good job at the plate. We drew a bunch of walks, had 10 hits and I thought had a decent approach at the plate. But you have to have someone that can come in and stop the hemorrhaging and we didn't. An ugly baseball game on both sides with a lot of a lot of goofy stuff, but I think the good part is that we were locked in the whole time and had the tying run at the plate with a couple of shots at it in the ninth. Good opponent, good opportunity for us to grow and bounce back tomorrow. We're going to have to be better tomorrow." – Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald

• Kansas lost its first road game of the season.
• Hauge finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and two walks.
• Cubbler, Smith and Crawford all had multi-inning scoreless relief appearances.
