DALLAS – After receiving Big 12 Player of the Week honors on Monday, Kansas graduate outfielder
Jackson Hauge was named Dick Howser Trophy National Hitter of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Tuesday. Hauge is the first Kansas player to be picked as NCBWA National Hitter of the Week since 2003.
Â
Last week, Hauge hit .421/.593/1.263 (8-for-19), with four doubles, four home runs, 14 RBIs, six runs scored, seven walks and a 1.856 OPS in five games. All eight of Hauge's hits were extra-base hits and he had two multi-homer games.
Â
The Ramsey, Minnesota, native hit the fifth of five consecutive home runs at Minnesota to tie an NCAA record for most consecutive home runs. He finished that game on March 12 with a career-high seven RBIs.
Â
Currently, Hauge has 11 home runs this season, which is tied for the third most in the country and leads the Big 12. He also leads the Big 12 with 32 RBI (15th nationally) and total bases with 63 (23rd nationally).
Â
Hauge is the fourth Jayhawk in program history to be named NCBWA National Hitter of the Week. Travis Metcalf (2003), Ryan Baty (2003) and Jeff Mentel (1989) also received the accolade.
Â
Kansas earned its way into the NCBWA Top 25 rankings on Monday, receiving the No. 22 spot. The ranking was the first for the program since 2014. Kansas now begins a four-game stretch in the state of Arizona, starting tonight against the No. 23-ranked Arizona Wildcats at 8 p.m. CT.
