SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Kansas women's tennis team got back into the win column with a 4-0 sweep over Utah in Salt Lake City on Thursday afternoon. Kansas improves to 11-8 (5-4 Big 12) on the season, while Utah falls to 7-10 (2-6 Big 12) on the year.
The win over Utah marked Kansas' 11th win of the season, surpassing last season's total of 10 wins.
#39 Kansas started off strong in doubles action, winning two out of three doubles matches. In No. 1 doubles, the pair of Gracie Mulville and Heike Janse van Vuuren improved to 11-5 this season with their 6-2 win over Utah's Emma Kamper and Hayley Roberts. On court three, Kyoka Kubo and Anna Putilina won the doubles point for the Jayhawks as they defeated Samantha Horwood and Dylan Lolofie 6-2.
Utah picked up one doubles win on court two, as Sara Akid and Emma Valletta defeated the Jayhawks' Jasmine Adams and Yerkezhan Arystanbekova 6-2.Â
Kansas kept the momentum going into singles action, as the Jayhawks won three straight matches to defeat the Utes. On court four, van Vuuren picked up the win by defeating Valletta in two sets, 6-1, 6-1. Court six finished up second, as Meriem Ben Ezzedine defeated Lolofie in a 6-2, 6-1 match. The Jayhawks won the match on court five, as Arystanbekova won in two sets over Roberts, 6-2, 6-4.
Matches on courts one, two, and three went unfinished. On court one, Kansas' #67 Mulville led Utah's Kamper 7-6, 5-3. On court two, Akid led Kansas' Maria Titova 6-3, 6-6. And on court three, Kubo led against Kaila Barksdale in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 2-1.
