Â
The 12-1 start to the season is the best since 2014. Dominic Voegele went five innings and earned the win after a shaky first inning. Following Voegele, the Jayhawks used Kannon Carr, Gavin Brasosky, Naun Haro and Kasey Crawford each for an inning of scoreless relief.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Milwaukee (1-12) sprinted out to an early 3-0 lead. Gabe Roessler hit a leadoff home run and after a walk, Tyler Bickers hit a two-run homer.
• Kansas (12-1) was able to get one run back in the bottom of the second inning. Ballinger hit an RBI single to score Ian Francis.
• The Jayhawks were able to tie it up in the fourth inning with two runs. Cerda hit a two-run homer to even up the game.
• KU opened the game up in the fifth inning with eight runs, which included three homers. Hauge led off the inning with a solo home run and Counsell hit his own solo home run two batters later. Counsell's homer was the first of eight consecutive hits in the inning. Chase Diggins and Francis each had an RBI single, Cerda lined an RBI double down the left field line and Ballinger hit a three-run homer. That made it an 11-3 Kansas lead.
• Kansas added five more runs in the sixth inning with an RBI single by Ian Francis, a two-run single by Hauge, a sac fly from Counsell and a bases loaded hit by pitch. The five runs extended the Jayhawks lead to 16-3.
• The Jayhawks were able to tack on one more run in the seventh and four in the eighth to wrap up the scoring. Counsell drew a bases loaded walk in the seventh to score a run. In the eighth, Cerda had a two-run double down the left field line and Wisdom hit one off the scoreboard in right field.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"I thought it was a great response. If you breakdown yesterday, there was a significant amount to like from yesterday too. We just didn't have the breakthrough hit that really put it out of reach, and today we did. Now, it didn't start that way. We're down 3-1 going into the fourth and scratched out two to tie it and then obviously stretched it. I thought that the adjustment Dom made was the thing that was great because he gets us through five on a very reasonable pitch count. Then, our idea was if it's close, then Kannon was just going to roll, but our offense exploded, which is great, because we needed to get Gavin, Naun and Kasey in the game. Proud of the response." – Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald
Â
"We had great approaches all day and the fifth inning we finally got some guys we could get a hold of and just the entire team followed it. I don't remember exactly who led off the inning with a bomb, but I remember it was a great start to the inning and then we just kept following." – Brady Ballinger
Â
"Honestly, their starter was putting it in spots where it's tough to get barrels. He was throwing cutters up and in and they were just tough pitches to hit. We hadn't got our breaks yet. It always helps to get into the bullpen early and we got to the bullpen and the rest is kind of history. I don't think that the approach changes at all. We tried to control the 17 inches of the plate and that's usually what happens. We end up breaking down the door." – Jackson Hauge
