LAWRENCE, Kan. – Looking to rebound from a competitive conference series last weekend, the Kansas softball team returns home to host Kansas City on Wednesday, April 2, at 5:00 p.m. CT at Arrocha Ballpark.Â
"Midweek games are always tough, but I know we're all ready to get back on the field and compete after a disappointing weekend," said Head Coach Jennifer McFalls. "We need to keep focusing on ourselves and improving every time we step on the field."
Kansas (15-15, 3-6 Big 12) enters the matchup ready to earn a solid win against its neighbor Kansas City, after being swept by No. 13 Texas Tech. The Red Raiders took the series opener with a 9-0 run-rule victory in five innings, but the Jayhawks responded with a stronger offensive showing in game two, tallying nine hits and three runs in a 14-3 loss. The series finale was a more defensive battle, with senior pitcher Katie Brooks throwing a complete game. She struck out three batters and held Texas Tech's explosive offense to just four runs, though Kansas ultimately fell 4-1.
At the plate, three Jayhawks are batting over .350 this season—juniors Presley Limbaugh (.385), Aynslee Linduff (.365), and Hailey Cripe (.353). Limbaugh leads the team in hits (37), doubles (8), and triples (2), while Cripe paces the squad with 22 RBIs and is second in home runs (4).
In the circle, Kansas has relied on a versatile pitching staff with five different starters this season. Freshman Kaelee Washington and junior Kennedy Diggs have each started a team-high eight games, followed closely by Brooks (7). Senior Olivia Bruno leads the staff with a 2.26 ERA, while Washington has recorded a team-best 32 strikeouts.
