FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 19 Kansas baseball heads on the road to play No. 24 TCU for its second consecutive Big 12 weekend away from Lawrence. The three-game series is set to begin on Friday night at 6 p.m. CT at Lupton Stadium.
"From this point forward, it's just fill in the blank with blank great team that we play," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "TCU is another formidable opponent and one that we'll have to be really sharp to do what we do."
Kansas (27-7, 9-3 Big 12) has won nine of its last 10 games and sits in sole possession of first place in the Big 12 standings for the first time since the 2009 season. The 27-7 overall record matches the best record through the first 34 games in program history with 1993, the only year Kansas has ever made the College World Series. The 9-3 start to conference play is the best start to a Big 12 season in school history.
The Jayhawks have displayed one of the best offenses in the country throughout the season. Kansas leads the conference in walks (tied for third nationally), home runs (tied for fourth nationally), runs (tied for eighth nationally), slugging percentage (ninth nationally), hits (11th nationally), runs per game (tied for 14th nationally), on-base percentage (18th nationally) and total bases.
KU has 74 home runs this season and is one shy of tying the program record of 75 set in 2006 and matched in 2023. Twelve different Jayhawks have hit a homer this season. There have been 41 home runs hit at Hoglund Ballpark and 33 hit on the road this year.
TCU (25-9, 8-4 Big 12) is ranked No. 24 by Baseball America this week. The Horned Frogs swept BYU last weekend and are tied for third place in the Big 12. Before dropping their midweek game, TCU had rattled off six consecutive wins. The Horned Frogs have posted the second lowest ERA in the conference this season at 4.26. Tommy LaPour, who will start on Friday night, holds a 2.62 ERA, the lowest in the Big 12.
