FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 19 Kansas baseball fell in the second game of a three-game series at No. 24 TCU by a score of 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at Lupton Stadium.
Jackson Hauge,
Brady Counsell and
Ian Francis all had multi-hit games, but it was not enough for the Jayhawks as they will look to salvage the series on Sunday.
Â
Kannon Carr started the game and was dealing for Kansas early. Carr got through 4.2 innings only allowing one hit and no runs before the TCU offense broke through for three runs in the fifth inning. Trailing 4-1 in the seventh inning, Kansas was able to cut the game to a one-run deficit, but that was as close as the Jayhawks would get. The setback drops Kansas to 27-9 overall this season and 9-5 in Big 12 play this season.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kansas struck first with a run in the top of the second inning. With runners on first and second, Francis hit an RBI single through the left side to give the Jayhawks a 1-0 lead.
• Carr was cruising through 4.2 innings until TCU put together a two-out rally to take the lead and chase Carr from the game. The game became tied on a wild pitch and the Horned Frogs took the lead on a two-run single by Karson Bowen to give them a 3-1 lead after five innings.
• TCU (27-9, 10-4 Big 12) added a run in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly from Noah Franco. That made it a 4-1 ballgame.
• The Jayhawks pulled within one run in the seventh on a two-run double down the left field line by Hauge. Kansas left the bases loaded in the inning but did trim the deficit to 4-3. That would conclude the scoring in the game.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"I loved the compete by our guys. I thought Kannon was outstanding through 4.2 innings and then kind of hit a wall there. The bullpen came in and did a good job. Proud of how we bounced back. Those games are two good staffs going at it, two good lineups going at it and two good defenses going at it. That's what happens when you're not able to get the hit to break it open. You end up in a dog fight like that and you either get the hit or you're one hit away, so we'll be back at it tomorrow." – Head Coach
Dan Fitzgerald
