KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas softball is set to travel to Kansas City, Missouri, to take on the Roos on Wednesday April 23, at 5 p.m. CT in a standalone midweek matchup.Â
The Jayhawks have already faced the Roos once this season at Arrocha Ballpark, where Kansas came away with a dominant 8-0 victory in five innings. Offensively, the Jayhawks recorded three home runs and two doubles, while senior Katie Brooks threw four scoreless innings, allowing just two hits.Â
"Every midweek game is important, and I expect us to compete just like we would in a conference series," said head coach Jennifer McFalls."Kansas City always challenges us, so we need to be mentally and physically prepared to be at our best."Â
Kansas (19-22, 5-13 Big 12) is coming off a hard-fought conference series against Iowa State in Ames. The Jayhawks dropped the opener 4-2 following a defensive battle that saw four straight scoreless innings. Game two came down to the final at-bat, where the Cyclones edged out Kansas 7-6, despite a standout performance from junior Hailey Cripe. The Jayhawks avoided the sweep in game three, powering their way to a 13-5 victory, highlighted by nine different players crossing the plate.
At the plate, junior Presley Limbaugh leads Kansas with a .374 batting average. She also tops the team in hits (41), doubles (10), and triples (2). Senior Olivia Bruno and junior Hailey Cripe have been key offensive contributors as well, leading the team in RBIs (31) and home runs (8), while both maintain batting averages above .300.
In the circle, Bruno also leads the pitching staff with a 2.66 ERA, five complete games, and 41 strikeouts. Senior Katie Brooks has been a reliable presence, leading the team in starts (11) and innings pitched (61.0). The Jayhawks' staff is rounded out by junior Lizzy Ludwig, and freshmen Kaelee Washington and Kennedy Diggs.
