Senior Olivia Bruno fueled the offensive explosion with four RBIs, including a three-run homer, and scored three times to pace the Jayhawks.
"We definitely needed this tonight. Our bats came alive, we played with confidence, and got the job done," said head coach Jennifer McFalls. "The pitchers got some solid work in, and with a big weekend ahead, we're excited to get back to Lawrence, rest up, and get ready for OSU."
Kansas wasted no time, jumping out to a six-run lead in the first inning. Junior Presley Limbaugh scored the game's opening run on a single from junior Aynslee Linduff. Sophomore Anna Soles followed with a two-run single before freshman Bailey Amezcua launched a three-run shot to cap the early scoring.
Kansas City answered with three runs of its own in the bottom half, but Kansas' defense held strong, making a key play at the plate to preserve a 6-3 lead.
The Jayhawks kept rolling in the second. Back-to-back hits from Limbaugh and Linduff set up an RBI single from junior Hailey Cripe, and Bruno followed with a towering three-run homer to center, extending the lead to 10-3.
Kansas' biggest inning came in the third, when it erupted for nine runs on five hits. RBIs came from Campbell Bagshaw, Ava Wallace, Bailey Weber, Linduff, Soles, and Bruno to blow the game wide open at 19-3.
Kansas City tacked on one more run in the fourth with an RBI single, but Kansas closed the scoring with a two-run double from senior Candace Yingling in the fifth.
The game was called after five innings due to the run rule, with Kansas claiming a decisive 21-4 win.
