SALT LAKE CITY – No. 23 Kansas baseball will remain on the road with a weekend series against Utah at Smith's Ballpark. The Jayhawks have won five consecutive games heading into this weekend.
Â
"We celebrate the wins, and I don't think anybody has more fun than we do and enjoys it more than we do," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "Part of enjoying it is moving on from it too…the toughest part about our sport is you play so many games that you have to be resilient over and over. It's also the greatest because you're not afforded the opportunity to be over joyed or over crushed by a win or loss because the next one is coming whether you like it or not."
Â
Kansas (32-10, 12-6 Big 12) is currently tied for second in the Big 12 standings. The Jayhawks have at least 30 wins in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2013 and 2014. KU has surpassed its win total from the 2024 season with 14 regular season games to go and has its most wins since 2019.
Â
Last weekend, Kansas recorded its first series sweep against Kansas State since 2019. The Jayhawks have six series sweeps this season (at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, at Tarleton State, vs. Milwaukee, vs. Oklahoma State, at UCF, vs. Kansas State). The Kansas bullpen allowed only one run against the Wildcats in 9.1 innings a weekend ago (9.1 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 10 SO).
Â
On Tuesday night, Kansas shutout Nebraska 4-0 on the road. The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Jayhawks. That is the most shutouts in a season for Kansas since 2021. Four shutouts are tied for the most in the conference and tied for 14th in the nation.
Â
Utah (17-19, 5-13 Big 12) has won four of its last six games, including a Friday night win at Baylor and a series victory against BYU. The Utes have a .294 batting average as a team and have posted a 5.97 ERA as a pitching staff. Core Jackson has been one of the best offensive players in the Big 12 this season with a .395 batting average, 15 doubles and 14 stolen bases. On the mound, Colter McAnelly will start on Friday night and leads the league in innings pitched.
