TEMPE, Ariz. - Kansas softball (16-15, 3-6 Big 12) will hit the road for a three-game series against Arizona State (24-13, 6-6 Big 12) in Tempe, Arizona, from April 4-6. The series opener is set for Friday at 7 p.m. CT
"We've got to get all three sides of our game working at the same time—our offense, defense, and pitching. When we have that, like when we went to Mizzou, we are really good. We need to be solid, especially in conference play against a team like ASU this weekend," said Head Coach
Jennifer McFalls. "They put the ball in play, have strong pitching, and will have the home-field advantage. But I like us on the road. I think we have fewer distractions, and I'm excited to see some pieces come together."
Kansas enters the series after a quick turnaround following a standalone game against Kansas City. The Jayhawks secured a dominant 8-0 victory in five innings. Junior
Hailey Cripe led the way, going 2-for-2 at the plate with two home runs. In the circle, Kansas' pitching staff and defense were outstanding, holding Kansas City to just two hits while keeping them scoreless. It marked the fourth shutout of the season for Kansas and the first at Arrocha Ballpark this season.
At the plate, the Jayhawks are led by juniors Cripe,
Presley Limbaugh, and
Aynslee Linduff. All three boast batting averages above .350 and rank at the top of the team in major offensive categories. Cripe leads Kansas in RBIs (25) and home runs (6), while Limbaugh paces the team in hits (38), doubles (8), and triples (2).
On the mound, freshman
Kaelee Washington leads the team in appearances (17) and strikeouts (33). Senior
Katie Brooks has been a key contributor, logging a team-high 53.0 innings pitched this season. The Kansas pitching staff also includes senior
Olivia Bruno, junior
Lizzy Ludwig, and freshman
Kennedy Diggs. Each has recorded at least three starts and totaled 15 or more strikeouts this year.
