
Four Jayhawks Take First at John Jacobs Invite

NORMAN, Okla. - The Kansas Track & Field team competed in the John Jacobs Invite on Thursday, where four Jayhawks won their respective events.
The day kicked off with the Women's Discus where Freshman Madeleine Fey took fifth with a mark of 53.72m(176-3 ft.). In the Women's 1500m Marisa January finished fourth, and Freshman Mia Murray ran a PR time of 4:49.93.Â
Kansas finished in the top three spots of the Women's 400m Hurdles as Sidney Smith won with a time of 59.80, Addison Brooks took second & Kaleigh Frazier finished third. The Jayhawks also went 1-2 in the Women's 200m with Brooke Freeman taking first with a time of 24.09, Pearl Awanya took second running a season-best time of 24.54. Senior Gabby Hoke & Freshman Madison Snody took 2nd & 3rd in the Women's Pole Vault.
The Men's 4x100m Relay took second with a time of 41.23, which was headlined by Josiah Parris, Mateo Vargas, Aaron Merritt & Dean McCune. Freshman Parker Walion finished 5th in the Men's 1500m running a time of 3:57.23. Junior Gabe Birkmeier ran a time of 9:50.32 in the Men's 300m Steeplechase where he took third.
Senior Brady Koolen won the Men's Pole Vault with a PR mark of 5.30m(17-4.5 ft.), Bryce Barkdull finished third in the same event. Jeremiah Smith the Topeka, Kan. native won the Men's 110m Hurdles with a PR time of 13.99 seconds.Â
Junior Joseph Kieny finished as the runner-up in the Men's Discus after throwing a distance of 53.88m (176-7 ft.). Freshman Dean McCune ran a PR time in the Men's 200m with a time of 21.98. In the Men's Shot Put, the Jayhawks claimed two of the top three spots as Jacob Cookinham placed second with a toss of 18.34m(60-4 ft.), Freshman Dimitrios Antonatos took third. Julia Chapman also recorded a PR of 38.04 meters to take third in the Women's Javelin event.Â
