LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Kansas Track & Field team is ready for its second meet of the outdoor season with the ESU Spring Open in Emporia, Kansas on Friday, March 27.Â
The Jayhawks are looking to build upon the strong start to the outdoor season where the women's took first and the men's team finished second at the Jayhawk Spring Fling, while also setting 18 personal bests. Bryce Barkdull and Mason Meinershagen swept the Big 12 Athlete of the Week Awards for their performances at the meet.
"This will be a great opportunity for our athletes to go out and compete and have an opportunity to do well for the team," Kansas head coach
Stanley Redwine said. "We are looking forward to hopefully having another great meet."
The events will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's hammer throw followed by the men's. The men's discus will also begin at 10:30 a.m. with the women's discus after its conclusion. The field events will proceed with the men's javelin, women's pole vault, women's high jump and both the men's and women's long jumps at 11 a.m.
Following the conclusion of the hammer throw and discus, the men's and women's shot put events will begin, and both triple jumps are scheduled after the long jump events end.Â
The women's 3,000 meter steeplechase is set to begin at 1 p.m. followed by the men's at 1:15 p.m. Track events will be run by the women first, followed by the men throughout the day. The 4x100 meter relays are set to start at 1:30 and 1:40 p.m., followed by the 1,500 meter runs, 100 meter and 110 meter hurdles and 400 meter runs.
The 100 meter dashes are scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m. followed by the 800 meter runs, 400 meter hurdles, and 200 meter dashes.Â
The 4x800 meter relays, 5,000 meter runs, 4x400 meter relays and 10,000 meter runs will wrap up the events on a rolling schedule following the conclusion of the 200 meter dashes.
