LAWRENCE, KAN. -Â Kansas Track and Field competed in the first of three days at the Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Rock Chalk Park Thursday.Â
The Jayhawks were highlighted by
Tayton Klein and Alex Jung on the men's side, and
Emmaculate Jemutai and
Aubrey Duncan on the women's side.Â
The event started with the Decathlon and the Heptathlon, and the Jayhawk Decathletes started the event off on a great note.
Tayton Klein recorded four top six finishes in the first day of the Decathlon, finishing third in the 100m dash, winning the Long Jump, placing sixth in the High Jump, and taking fourth in the 400m. Klein is in fourth place overall, with 4,022 points. Jung found a second place in the shot put event on Thursday, and sits in eighth place for the event, with a total of 3,868 points.Â
In the men's 1500 meter prelims, two Jayhawks made their way to the final by qualifying on Thursday evening.
Paul Ngasharr placed third in the event with a personal record time of 3:38.35.
Tanner Talley clocked a time of 3:45.90 to also get through to the 1500 finals on Saturday.Â
Kansas would find more success in the 1500 meter prelims on the women's side as
Emmaculate Jemutai won the 1500 meter prelims with a time of 4:29.76.
Later in the night, another Jayhawk set a new personal record as
Aubrey Duncan set a new personal record in the Javelin event by throwing a mark of 45.56 meters. Duncan placed ninth in the event.Â
