LAWRENCE, KAN. - Freshman Pole Vaulter
Bryce Barkdull took home the honor of the most outstanding men's freshman this outdoor season, per a Big 12 release.
Barkdull's best mark of 5.51 meters, which was recently set at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, currently ranks as the second-best mark in the Big 12 outdoor season. The only person to jump higher than Bryce is his big brother, junior
Ashton Barkdull.
Barkdull's mark is the second-best amongst all freshmen in the country, and the best amongst freshmen in the Big 12. Barkdull trended in the right direction throughout his outdoor season, opening at the Battle on the Bayou, jumping a mark of 5.40 meters to take third in the event.
Later on in the outdoor season, Barkdull recorded a new season best of 5.45 meters at the Desert Heat Classic in Arizona. In the first postseason meet of the outdoor season, Barkdull tied his indoor which was set indoors at the same event, by jumping 5.51 meters at the Big 12 Championships at Rock Chalk Park.
Barkdull will jump next at the NCAA West Prelims in College Station, Texas next week. Barkdull is one of five Jayhawks that will be competing at the meet in the Men's Pole Vault event.
