COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS -Â The Kansas Track & Field team completed Day One of the NCAA West Prelims, with four Jayhawks punching their ticket to the National Championships Wednesday night.
"It was a really good start, it's a tough meet, it was great for those people who came through. It was a hard-fought day, looking forward to those that made it to Friday as well," said Head Coach
Stanley Redwine.
The day started with the Men's Pole Vault team, where both the Barkdull brothers qualified for Nationals in Eugene, Oregon. Bryce and
Ashton Barkdull both jumped a height of 5.42 meters to place in the top 12 of the Men's Pole Vault event, moving them forward to the National Championships. The Barkdulls will mark the eighth straight time at least one Jayhawk pole vaulter has qualified for the National Championships, a streak that dates back to 2017.Â
In the Men's Shot Put,
Bryce Foster &
Jacob Cookinham both qualified for NCAA Nationals.
Bryce Foster, on his third and final throw, threw a new PR of 19.20m to move on to Eugene. Cookingham threw 18.93m on his opening throw, which was also good enough to join his Jayhawk teammate at the National Championships.Â
As for running events, in the Men's 1500m,
Tanner Talley ran a time of 3:45.62 to qualify for the Quarterfinals on Friday. In the Men's 800m, Lansing, Kan. native
