COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS -Â The Kansas Track & Field team wrapped the fourth and final day of the NCAA West Prelims, with three more Jayhawks punching their ticket to the National Championship Meet.
"It was a great weekend for most, and exciting to see those who qualified today. I'm looking forward to see those who are going to Nationals compete," Kansas Head Coach
Stanley Redwine said.
The day started with Sonya Sluchaninova punching her ticket to Nationals in the Women's Discus. Sluchaninova threw a mark of 58.22 meters on her last throw of the meet. That mark was good enough for Sluchaninova to place fourth overall in the event, which punched her ticket to Eugene.Â
Ebba Cronholm was the next Jayhawk to book a trip to Eugene after running a time of 10:01.90 in the Women's 3000-meter steeplechase. Cronholm's time placed her in 11th for the meet, which qualified her for the national meet. Cronholm is the first Jayhawk to qualify for the National Championship Meet since
Lona Latema in 2023.Â
The last Jayhawk to qualify for the National Championship meet was
Aaliyah Moore in the Women's 800-meter race. Moore qualified by running a personal best time of 2:02.87 to qualify for nationals.
With the three athletes punching their ticket today, Kansas has 11 athletes qualify for NCAA Nationals, improving on their total from a season ago, where the Jayhawks sent 10 to the 2024 rendition of the National Championship.
