Meinershagen Breaks School Record, Four other Jayhawks win at the Desert Heat Classic

TUCSON, ARIZ. - The Kansas Track & Field team wrapped up their regular season at the Desert Heat Classic, where 4 Jayhawks won their respective events.
TUCSON, ARIZ. - The Kansas Track & Field team wrapped up their regular season at the Desert Heat Classic, where 4 Jayhawks won their respective events.
Mason Meinershagen broke the Outdoor Women's Pole Vault School Record with a 3rd and final jump of 4.51m, previously held by herself and teammate Erica Ellis at 4.50m. Meinershagen finished 3rd in the event. The Sophomore also holds the Indoor School Record in the Women's Pole Vault.
Sawyer Schmidt won the Men's 3000m Steeplechase by over 9 seconds with a time of 9:17.30. Senior Dimitrios Pavlidis won the Men's Discus with a throw of 60.51m, capping off back-to-back wins for the Greek International.
Late into the night, more Jayhawks continued the winning ways with Freshman Kori Randle winning the Women's Triple Jump with a mark of 12.87m. Also, Senior Aaliyah Moore won the Women's 800m running a time of 2:07.12.
Kansas also had multiple second-place finishers starting with, Junior Sonya Sluchaninova took 2nd in the Women's Discus with a throw of 54.99m. Freshman Mia Murray also finished 2nd in the Women's 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 11:15.14, she also won the 3000m SC at the Kansas Relays. Paul Ngasharr took 2nd with a PR time of 3:40.21 in the Men's 1500m.
UP NEXT: The Jayhawks will compete next when they host the Big 12 Outdoor Championships May 15th-17th, 2025, at Rock Chalk Park.
