LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women's golf team is set to travel to Columbus, Ohio, to compete in the NCAA Columbus Regional, May 5-7. The Jayhawks enter the 12-team regional as the No. 4 seed, which is the highest seeding in program history.Â
The Columbus Regional features three rounds of stroke play, consisting of 18 holes each day. The top five teams will advance to the NCAA Championship, held May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa's Champions Course in Carlsbad, California. Additionally, the lowest-scoring individual not on an advancing team will also qualify for the NCAA Championship.Â
Joining Kansas in the Columbus Regional are No. 1 Arkansas, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Ohio State (host), No. 5 Houston, No. 6 SMU, No. 7 UNLV, No. 8 Illinois, No. 9 Kent State, No. 10 Illinois State, No. 11 Xavier and No. 12 Oakland.Â
Fourth-year Kansas head coach Lindsay Kuhle will travel with seniors Lauren Clark, Lily Hirst and Johanna Ebner, junior Amy DeKock, sophomore Lyla Louderbaugh and freshman Ebba Nordstedt.
"We are really looking forward to playing at Ohio State, which we haven't been to yet," said Kuhle. "We know that it's a championship course and we've had great preparation this past week. We feel ready and that we have a great chance to make it to the National Championship because we are great ball strikers. We have a great group that is ready to play hard for Kansas, so we're highly motivated and determined."Â
The Jayhawks are coming off a historic season, collecting a program-record five team titles and four individual championships across the fall and spring seasons.Â
Clark leads the team with a 71.7 stroke average and has claimed three individual titles, all in consecutive tournaments during the spring. She also paces the team in top-five finishes (4), rounds in the 60s (10) and low 54-hole score (199, -17). Clark was Big 12 Golfer of the Month for February and was recently named to the All-Big 12 Team.
Hirst and DeKock have played in all 10 events this season and each recorded five rounds in the 60s. Hirst captured her first collegiate win at the spring opener, the Match in the Desert, on January 27.Â
Ebner and Louderbaugh have each competed in nine events, carrying matching 72.7 scoring averages. The duo is tied for fourth on the team in top-five finishes (1), top-10s (2), top-20s (5) and rounds in the 60s (3).Â
Nordstedt, who did not compete in the fall, played in all six spring tournaments and holds a 72.2 scoring average. She also posted the team's fourth-best 54-hole score of the season with a 209 (-7).Â
In just her fourth season at Kansas, Kuhle has the Jayhawks in the NCAA Regional for the fourth time in school history and for a third-consecutive season. This is Kuhle's 22nd NCAA Regional with 18 as a coach and four as a student-athlete at Tulane (2002-05).Â
