EUGENE, ORE. - The Kansas Track & Field team finished Day 2 of the NCAA National Championships with Erica Ellis taking 4th in the Women's Long Jump and Alexander Jung finishing 7th in the Decathlon with a school-record-breaking performance.
"It was a very good day for our athletes. Ebba broke the school record in the steeplechase, Erica placed fourth in the pole vault, and Alex placed 7th in the multi-events with a school record. I thought all of our athletes competed well and fought hard. They represented KU well," Said Kansas Head Coach Stanley Redwine.
In the Women's Pole Vault, Senior Erica Ellis finished tied for 4th in her last collegiate meet. She jumped a mark of 4.44m. That makes both Men's & Women's Pole Vault teams have athletes finish top 5 in the country this season.Â
In the Men's Decathlon, Senior Alexander Jung broke his own School Record in the Decathlon with a points total of 7746, which placed him 7th overall. Jung previously broke his own school record earlier this season at the Jim Click Shootout. Junior & Kansas native Tayton Klein also competed and finished 16th in the event.
Freshman Ebba Cronholm broke the School Record in the Women's 3000m Steeplechase with a time of 9:46.53. The Swede wrapped up her fantastic Freshman season with a 13th-place finish in the event.Â
Aaliyah Moore ran in the Women's 800m and took 16th overall. That makes back-to-back seasons where Moore was on an All-American team last season, Honorable Mention, and now Second team.Â
Tomorrow, the Jayhawks will be back in action as Senior Dimitrios Pavlidis will compete in the Men's Discus at 4:15 PM CT. The Greek International will look to build off of his performance last year at NCAA Nationals, where he took 3rd in the event.
