LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas Track & Field is set to compete in the Big 12 Indoor Championship this weekend, Feb. 27-28 at the Sports Performance Complex in Lubbock, Texas.Â

In the latest USTFCCCA rankings, Kansas saw some upward movement with the men's team climbing to the No. 29 team in the country and sixth in the Big 12. Kansas was represented by several event groups in the USTFCCCA's Event Squad Rankings, including, the top ranked heptathlon group, the second best men's pole vault group, the 22nd best men's long jumpers and the 23rd ranked men's high jumpers. The men's mile athletes are ranked 20th.
On the women's side, the triple jump squad ranks 13th and the long jumpers are ranked No. 21. The women's team as a whole is ranked 73rd in the country, while climbing two spots in the Big 12 rankings last week, up to eighth.Â
On Friday, the pentathlon will span its entirety with the 60 meter hurdles kicking things off at 10:15 a.m., followed by the high jump, shot put, long jump and finally the 800 meters at about 3 p.m.
Kansas' heptathletes will split their events over Friday and Saturday, with the 60 meter dash starting at 10 a.m. on Friday. The Jayhawks will then compete in the long jump, shot put and high jump. On Saturday, they will finish with the 60 meter hurdles at 10 a.m., pole vault 10:45 a.m. and the 1,000 meter run around 3 p.m.
The only time the Kansas multi event athletes have competed this season was at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational, where John Swabik and Tayton Klein both broke the heptathlon school record on their way to set the eighth and ninth best marks in the country this season.
Friday's field events will begin with the women's weight throw and pole vault beginning at 3 p.m. Jayhawk weight thrower Barbora Stejfova currently holds the 22nd best mark this season. Pole vaulter Mason Meinershagen, who set the Kansas school record at the Big 12 Championship last season, currently has the 12th best clearance nationally this season at 4.47 meters (14-8 ft.).
Both the men's and women's long jumps are set to begin at 4 p.m. before the men's weight throw, men's pole vault and both high jumps will kick off at 6 p.m. to wrap up Friday's field events. Kansas has three men's pole vaulters ranked in the top-20 nationally, including Ashton Barkdull (4th), Anthony Meacham (15th) and Bryce Barkdull (18th).
Friday's track events will begin at 2 p.m. and will include the mile, 60 meter hurdles, 60 meter dash, 600 yard run, 400 meter dash, 1,000 meters, 800 meters and 200 meter dash preliminaries. The 5,000 meter finals, and the distance medley relay finals will conclude the day.
On Saturday, field events include the women's shot put at 1 p.m., followed by men's and women's triple jumps at 2 p.m. and the men's shot put at 4 p.m. The track events will proceed with finals on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m.Â
