LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas libero and defensive specialist, Ryan White, has been named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Jayhawks' back row in a perfect 3–0 weekend at the Coyote Invitational. She finished the tournament with 43 digs (4.78 per set), including a season-best 27 digs in the sweep at South Dakota — the highest single-match total of the event. She added eight digs each in victories over FGCU and Green Bay, providing steady defense that allowed Kansas to stay in system and extend its winning streak.
Her weekend effort capped a strong start to the season. Through the opening 10 matches, White has already collected 147 digs (3.50 per set), along with 19 assists and eight aces, establishing herself as one of the conference's most reliable defensive specialists. She has posted double-digit digs in eight matches this year and has been a key factor in Kansas' 6–4 start and climb into the national top 20.
In addition to her 27-dig outing, White has recorded several other career and season-best performances in 2025. She notched a career-high eight assists at Wisconsin (Aug. 29) and tied her personal best with three service aces against Georgia Tech (Sept. 4). Her consistency in serve-receive and floor defense has fueled Kansas' balanced attack, while her back-row leadership continues to elevate the Jayhawks' play against high-level competition.
This is the first Big 12 weekly honor of her career, and the first Big 12 weekly award for Kansas this season. The Jayhawks return to action tonight at 6 p.m. CT, traveling to take on in-state rival Wichita State.
