LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels was named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy the National Football Foundation (NFF) announced on Wednesday.

Daniels is one of 177 semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy, which is awarded to college football's premier scholar-athlete award, which looks across all NCAA divisions and the NAIA levels. Now in its 36th year, the Campbell Trophy accounts for strong academics (minimum 3.2 GPA), outstanding football ability as a first team player, and demonstration of strong leadership and citizenship.

Daniels, a native of Lawndale, California, is a four-time team captain and is Kansas' first four-time team captain in program history. Daniels was named to the Walter Camp Award Preseason Watch List and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Watch List entering the 2025 season. In 2022, Daniels was named an Academic All-American.

Daniels has thrown for 7,568 career passing yards on 602-of-974 passing for 57 career touchdowns. This season, Daniels has been off to a great start passing for 817 yards on 66-of-99 passing and 12 touchdowns, coupled with 159 rushing yards on 26 attempts and one touchdown.

Not only has Daniels been impressive on the field, he has also been very involved in the community, contributing community service to the Lawrence community. Daniels has also started a "Mom2JD6" Foundation committed to supporting single mothers raising athletic children by providing financial aid, mentorship, sports training, and community resources.

Nominated by their schools, which are limited to one nominee each, candidates for the awards must be a senior who will complete his final year of eligibility in the 2025 season or a graduate student or graduate transfer who has already earned a degree and is participating in the 2025 season; have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale; have outstanding football ability as a first team player or significant contributor; and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship. The class is selected each year by the NFF Awards Committee, which is comprised of a nationally recognized group of media, NFF College Football Hall of Famers and athletics administrators.

The NFF will announce 12-16 finalists on Oct. 22, and each of them will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2025 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class Presented by Fidelity Investments. The finalists will travel to the Bellagio Resort & Casino in Las Vegas for the 67th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by Las Vegas on Dec. 9, where their accomplishments will be highlighted in front of one of the most powerful audiences in all of sports. Live during the event, one member of the class will be declared as the winner of the 36th Campbell Trophy® and have his postgraduate scholarship increased to $25,000.
