LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women's golf team is set to travel to Palos Verdes Estates, California to compete in the Therese Hession Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club from February 1-3.
"We are very excited to get our season started at Palos Verdes at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge this week," Kansas head coach Linsday Kuhle said. "It is an honor to be invited to this prestigious event at this premier championship course in Palos Verdes Golf Club. This field is a national championship caliber field with 16 teams from all over the country and we look forward to the opportunity of testing our games against the very best."
The Jayhawks will compete against UNLV, Florida, Miami, Texas, San Jose State, Arizona State, UCLA, SMU, South Carolina, USC, Oregon, Texas A&M, Pepperdine, California, and host Ohio State.
The Jayhawks will tee off at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, Feb. 1. The tournament will be 54-holes over three days, in an 18-18-18 hole format, with the final round beginning at 10:15 a.m. CT in a shotgun start format on Feb. 3.
Kansas will travel with a lineup of seniors Amy DeKock and Anna Wallin, junior Lyla Louderbaugh, and sophomores Ebba Nordstedt and Jillian Fatkin. Freshman Kinslea Jones will also travel with the team and will compete as an individual.
DeKock led the way for the Jayhawks in the fall season with a 72.7 stroke average and finished in the top 20 in all five events. DeKock also recorded one win at the Jayhawk Invitational, two top 10 finishes, and two rounds in the 60's.
Nordstedt put together an impressive fall season, recording one win, two top 20 finishes, and she carried a scoring average of 72.8 through 12 rounds.
Louderbaugh had a successful fall season, carrying a stroke average of 73.2 through 15 rounds, and recorded a season low 18-hole score of 65 (-7). Louderbaugh had two top five finishes, two top 10 finishes, and four top 20 finishes.
Wallin is set to compete in her 10th career event and finished the fall season carrying a stroke average of 75.1 through 12 rounds and recording two top 10 finishes.
Fatkin finished the fall season with one top 10 finish, three top 20 finishes, and one round in the 60's. Fatkin carried a stroke average of 75.4 through 15 rounds.
Jones carried a stroke average of 76.0 through 12 rounds and recorded one top 20 finish in the fall season.
