FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Kansas women's tennis fell 4-0 in its match against Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The defeat is the third straight for Kansas, who falls to 3-3 on the season, while Wisconsin improved to 5-2 on the year.
"To beat a good team like Wisconsin, it takes all courts laying it on the line," Kansas head coach Todd Chapman said. "We didn't get that today from all of our players. The positive is we get to get back on court tomorrow and see if we can get a full team effort."
The Jayhawks couldn't find a win in the doubles matches, dropping courts two and three to grant Wisconsin the doubles point. Yerkezhan Arystanbekova and Anna Putilina faced off against Maria Sholokova and Kája Jacobson on court one in a tight battle, but the match was tied at 3-3 when it went unfinished.Â
The ranked pair of No. 73 Heike Janse van Vuuren and Meg McCarty fell to Ellison Reynoldson and Ekaterina Ivanova 6-1 on court two, and the duo of Kyoka Kubo and Kinley VanPelt lost to Kaede Usui and Tianna Rangan 6-2 on court three.
Kansas was unable to respond in singles action, as Wisconsin grabbed three quick wins to take the match with a score of 4-0. Courts three, four and five went unfinished, with Arystanbekova leading Rangan 6-2, 5-4, McCarty leading Reynoldson 6-3, 4-4, and Nahyeong Cho battling Usui 3-6, 6-5.Â
The Badgers picked up wins on courts one, two and six, with No. 29 Sholokova defeating No. 25 Kubo 6-1, 6-3, No. 61 Ivanova defeating van Vuuren 6-0, 6-2, and Christensen defeating Putilina 6-4, 6-0.
