BEAUMONT, TEXAS – Kansas baseball will continue its tour of the Southland Conference with a game on Wednesday evening against Lamar. First pitch from Vincent-Beck Stadium is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT.

"We had a great series win against a really tough UTRGV team," head coach Dan Fitzgerald said. "I'm proud of how the guys competed. Playing great competition is important as we continue to get ready for Big 12 play. Lamar has a really good team and another great environment. We are looking forward to Wednesday night."

Kansas won its opening series of the season at UTRGV this past weekend. After dropping the season opener on Friday, the Jayhawks bounced back with a convincing 10-3 win on Saturday and a hard-fought 8-7 victory on a hot Sunday afternoon. Fitzgerald won his 100th game as head coach at Kansas on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Kansas bullpen of Carter Fink, Riane Ritter, Boede Rahe, Toby Scheidt and Caleb Deer allowed only three runs over seven innings of relief and recorded 12 strikeouts. As a pitching staff, Kansas averaged 12.3 strikeouts per game in the opening series of the season.

This year, Kansas has 36 student-athletes on its roster. Eighteen of them made their Kansas debut this past weekend. There are 26 newcomers and 10 returners on the roster this season. That includes 22 pitchers and 14 position players, with 29 of them being transfers and seven high school recruits.

Lamar (2-1) won its series at home against Oakland on opening weekend. The Cardinals took two out of three games in the series and play No. 3 Texas on Tuesday night before Wednesday's matchup. Lamar had a strong performance on the mound as the pitching staff combined to post a 3.54 ERA and averaged 13.7 strikeouts per game.

NO BETTER WAY TO START THE SEASON
Graduate transfer Jordan Bach started the season with a bang. The SIU-Carbondale transfer and Ladner, British Columbia, native, took the second pitch of the 2026 season out to left field for a leadoff solo homer.

Bach finished the weekend with seven hits, including a four-hit performance and a three-hit game. He hit .583 with a double, home run, three RBIs, five runs scored and two walks.

THE FRENCH CONNECTION
Junior Mathis Nayral earned the Saturday starter role and he impressed on the mound. Nayral, a transfer from Cochise College and a native of Montpellier, France, threw seven innings of one-run ball. He allowed only two hits over his seven innings of work, while walking none and striking out four. Nayral faced only two batters over the minimum.

SERIES HISTORY
Kansas and Lamar have only met one time in baseball and that came in 2004. The Jayhawks and Cardinals played a neutral site game in Edinburg, Texas, on Feb. 6, 2004 and Lamar won 3-2. Kansas held a 2-1 lead in the game, but Lamar scored two runs in the seventh to pull ahead and win the game.
