
Jayhawks Tally 421.5 Points on Third Day of Big 12 Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kansas swim and dive closed out Day Three of the Big 12 Championship at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in sixth place with 421.5 points. The Jayhawks were highlighted by a second-place finish on the 3-meter dive by junior Shiyun Lai and a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly by senior Lydia Lafferty.
"We had more folks achieve finalist opportunities today and raced well," head coach Clark Campbell said. "Tomorrow is a good day for us, and we want to keep the momentum going."
In the morning preliminaries, Lafferty posted a time of 53.24 in the 100-yard butterfly to earn a spot in the evening's A final. Sophomore Anna Gearhart (54.12) qualified for the B final. Freshman Sarah Blake recorded a personal-best 56.11 in the event, while Mia Waldron added a personal record of 55.34.
Freshman Madison Wagner (4:22.28) advanced to the 400-yard IM B final after placing 13th in prelims, and senior Hailey Farrell clocked a 4:23.42 to qualify for the C final.
In the 200-yard freestyle preliminaries, freshman Ivy Solt placed 11th with a 1:48.02 time to advance to the B final. Sophomore Gabi Dyer (1:48.98) earned a spot in the C final, and sophomore Sophie Wallace recorded a personal-best 1:51.33.
Sophomore Alayna Henage notched an additional personal record in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 29.73.
On the boards, Lai and senior Lize Lukas van Leeuwen qualified for the 3-meter dive A final, while freshman Kelley Estebo advanced to the C final.
In the evening finals, Lafferty placed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with a 53.12, and Gearhart finished 11th with 53.87. Wagner (4:21.70) and Farrell (4:25.33) placed 14th and 23rd, respectively, in the 400-yard IM.
Solt clocked a 1:48.81 to finish 16th in the 200-yard freestyle, while Dyer placed 20th in 1:48.58.
The 400-yard medley relay team of Lafferty, junior Ryan Johnston, Gearhart and Wallace combined for a time of 4:40.06 to place seventh.
Lai scored 326.80 points on the 3-meter dive to earn a silver medal, while Lukas van Leeuwen finished fifth with 303.25 points.
Day Four of the Big 12 Championship begins Friday with preliminaries at 9 a.m. CT and finals at 5 p.m. CT. No diving events are scheduled.
