LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas softball shifts out of tournament play and into the regular-season rhythm Wednesday night, traveling to face Wichita State Shockers softball in a 6 p.m. CT matchup streamed on ESPN+.
The Jayhawks enter the week coming off one of their strongest weekends of the season at the Wooo Pig Classic. Kansas racked up 46 hits in Arkansas, including 12 doubles and six home runs, closing the tournament with an explosive offensive surge.
Speed and pressure at the top of the lineup continue to fuel that production. Presley Limbaugh has been perfect on the basepaths this season, ranking among the Big 12 leaders in stolen bases per game. Behind her, Hailey Cripe has delivered consistent extra-base impact, sitting near the top of the conference in triples and providing key run production in momentum-swinging moments.
The middle of the order has been equally dangerous. Anna Soles has driven in timely runs while ranking second in the Big 12 in sacrifice flies, and Kadence Stafford continues to be one of the league's most consistent gap hitters, leading the conference in doubles per game and posting a .700 on-base percentage through early-season play.
In the circle, Kansas saw balance and control throughout the weekend. Lila Partridge tossed a two-hitter against Boise State, while Chloe Barber and Lizzy Ludwig combined for 10 innings of shutout softball, helping the Jayhawks secure back-to-back wins without playing past seven innings.
Kansas also battled No. 7 Arkansas Razorbacks softball in the tournament finale. Despite falling behind early, the Jayhawks answered with a three-run inning and continued to compete deep into the game, showing the resilience head coach Jennifer McFalls has emphasized all season.
"We're starting to put more complete games together," McFalls said. "Now it's about sustaining that execution and taking that same focus on the road."
The midweek contest marks Kansas' second midweek game of the season and another chapter in an in-state rivalry that dates back to 1979. The Jayhawks went 1-1 against the Shockers last year, responding with a road win in Wichita after dropping the first meeting in Lawrence.
Kansas now looks to carry its offensive rhythm and pitching stability into Wednesday night's matchup as the schedule begins to settle into its regular-season grind.
