FORT WORTH, Texas – Kansas baseball heads on the road for four games in the state of Texas this week, starting with a non-conference matchup at No. 17 TCU on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
Â
Each Big 12 team plays 30 league games against 10 different schools. Every team will not face three schools in conference play this year. The Jayhawks do not play TCU, Arizona State and Baylor in conference action this season.
Â
Kansas (10-5) has won three of its four weekend series to start the year. The Jayhawks have picked up series wins against UTRGV, McNeese State and St. Thomas. Seven of the 10 wins this season have come on the road. The seven road wins are tied for the second most in the country.
Â
The Jayhawks are first in the Big 12 and tied for fifth nationally in sacrifice flies (13) and second in the conference in walks (97).
Jordan Bach has drawn 18 of those walks, which is tied for the most in the Big 12 and tied for 11th nationally.
Â
This past weekend, the Jayhawks won three out of four games against St. Thomas. On Saturday, Kansas claimed its first walk-off win of the season on a 2-run HR by
Augusto Mungarrieta. Trailing 8-7 heading into the bottom of the ninth, a leadoff walk put the game-tying run on base and set up Mungarrieta for his game-winner. Kansas hit three home runs in the final two innings of the game to help the Jayhawks get the win.
Â
TCU (9-6) is ranked No. 14 by Baseball America, No. 17 by D1Baseball, No. 21 by NCBWA and No. 23 in the USA Today coaches poll. The Horned Frogs had a challenging schedule to open the season with five of their first seven games coming against ranked opponents. TCU has posted a 6-1 record at home this season. Through the first four weekends, TCU is hitting .258 as a team and has posted a 6.17 ERA.
