LAWRENCE, Kan. — Riding the momentum of its third Big 12 series win of the season, Kansas softball returns home this weekend to host No. 20/23 Arizona State for a three-game conference series at Arrocha Ballpark. The Jayhawks will open with a doubleheader Thursday, with Game 1 starting at 3 p.m. CT and Game 2 scheduled to begin at approximately 5:30 p.m.
Kansas (25-10, 6-3 Big 12) is coming off a decisive Game 3 victory at BYU, in which the Jayhawks erupted for 10 runs on 15 hits, including four home runs and multiple doubles. Kansas continues to rank among the conference leaders in batting average, doubles and extra-base hits while consistently producing in the middle innings. The Jayhawks have now secured three Big 12 series victories for the first time since 2024.
"We're starting to see our identity come together at the right time," head coach Jennifer McFalls said. "Our hitters are confident, we're getting contributions throughout the lineup, and our pitching staff continues to compete in big moments. This weekend is another opportunity to show growth against a very talented opponent."
Ella Boyer, Hailey Cripe, Campbell Bagshaw and September Flanagan each homered in the series finale last weekend, underscoring the depth of a lineup that features multiple hitters batting above .300 and several with double-digit extra-base hits on the year. Kansas ranks near the top of the conference in doubles and total hits while maintaining one of the best team batting averages in the league.
In the circle, Chloe Barber and Lizzy Ludwig continue to anchor the pitching staff. Barber earned the win in the series-clinching game at BYU after working into the sixth inning on 111 pitches, while Ludwig provided steady relief to close the door.
Arizona State enters the weekend as Kansas' second Top 25 matchup of the season. The Sun Devils bring a powerful offense of their own, setting up a series that will test the Jayhawks' pitching depth and defensive consistency. Kansas dropped the series to Arizona State last season and will look to reverse that outcome on its home field.
