"Another awesome midweek matchup against an in-state rival," head coach
Dan Fitzgerald said. "Our midweek games are so important to our schedule and there's literally nothing like playing at home. Our crowd is amazing."
Â
Kansas (26-10, 12-3 Big 12) has won a season-best 10 consecutive games and is 16-2 in its last 18 contests. It's the longest winning streak in the same season since a 10-game winning streak to start the 2002 season. Kansas is averaging 9.1 runs per game over the last 18 contests.
Â
The Jayhawks moved into the Top 25 rankings this week following a perfect 4-0 last week at No. 19 Nebraska and with a three-game sweep of No. 12 UCF. KU is ranked No. 18 by D1Baseball and The Athletic, No. 19 by Baseball America, No. 21 by Perfect Game and USA Today and No. 23 by the NCBWA. The No. 18 ranking is the highest since March 17, 2014, when the Jayhawks were ranked No. 18 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Â
Kansas is in first place in the Big 12 with a 12-3 record. It's the best Big 12 start for the Jayhawks in program history. KU has won eight consecutive conference games and 12 of the last 13. The Jayhawks have now won four consecutive Big 12 series for the first time in program history.
Â
Wichita State (23-14, 7-5 American) is coming off a series win at UAB this past weekend. The Shockers are hitting .310 as a team this season and the pitching staff has recorded a 4.76 ERA. Rahe was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The Big 12 weekly honors were the first of his career.
Â
Rahe was crucial for Kansas in its perfect 4-0 week against ranked opponents that included a win at No. 19 Nebraska and a three-game series sweep of No. 12 UCF. He was on mound to finish three of the four wins against ranked competition, earning a win and two saves.
Â
The Marion, Iowa, native threw seven innings and did not allow an earned run last week. Rahe posted a 0.57 WHIP and opponents had only a .083 batting average against him.
