STILLWATER, Okla. – Kansas softball heads to Stillwater, Oklahoma, as the Jayhawks take on Oklahoma State May 1-3. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 6 p.m. CT from Cowgirl Stadium and will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
Kansas (33–16, 13-8 Big 12) continues to make a tournament push, coming off its ninth top 50 RPI win of the season, beating Wichita State 10-0 in five innings on Tuesday. The Jayhawks currently rank No. 42 in RPI, 34 in KPI and 33 in DSR. Kansas ranks fourth in the Big 12 with its 13-8 conference record, and is 6-1 in conference series, which is the second-best in the Big 12.Â
The Jayhawks' 33 wins are the most under head coach Jennifer McFalls, and the most overall since 2015. Kansas has also set a program record in conference wins (13), home runs (78), doubles (88) and runs scored (343).
"Every time they step on the field, they think they're going to win," head coach Jennifer McFalls said about the team's success this season. "They're playing to win, they're not playing not to lose, and I think that's been the biggest difference for our mentality this spring, and where we're sitting at today, knowing we have a big series ahead of us."
In the game against Wichita State, the Kansas bats came out swinging. The Jayhawks set the tone in the first inning, scoring five runs, including an Anna Soles two-run home run, her 12th of the season. Kansas extended their lead in the second inning as Hailey Cripe launched her 15th home run of the season, making the score 6-0. Kansas would score four more runs to give them a 10-0 victory in five innings. Lila Partridge dominated in the circle, throwing her third straight complete game. Partridge threw all five innings, giving up no runs on just three hits, striking out three and not allowing a walk.Â
Oklahoma State (35-13, 14-7 Big 12) enters the series in third place in the Big 12, leading Kansas by just one game. The Cowgirls have one of the best pitching staffs in the Big 12, ranking in the top five in the conference in ERA (3.18), hits allowed (312), total runs allowed (170), earned runs (142), walks (91), strikeouts (242) and batting average against (.254). Oklahoma State is led by senior pitcher Ruby Meylan, who leads the team in ERA (2.13), WHIP (1.03), wins (24), complete games (18), shutouts (6), innings pitched (200.2), strikeouts (186) and batting average against (.210).
