LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas dropped game one of the series against No. 13 Oklahoma State, 8-1, on Friday afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium.Â
The Jayhawks hit three doubles, including a team-leading 14th from Aynslee Linduff, but four home runs from Oklahoma State propelled the Cowgirls to the win.Â
Kansas fell to 33-17 (13-9 Big 12) while Oklahoma State improved to 36-13 (15-7 Big 12). Game two of the series is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
How It Happened | vs. Oklahoma State
- Both offenses went quietly in the first two innings, as there was only one base runner between the two teams.
- In the top of the third, Kansas got its first baserunner and the first hit of the game as senior Aynslee Linduff laced a leadoff double to left-center field. Sophomore Bailey Amezcua then put down a bunt that moved Linduff from second to third. With one out, junior Kadence Stafford lined out to the sliding Oklahoma State left fielder, who then threw out Linduff trying to score, ending the inning.Â
- In the bottom half of the third, junior Chloe Barber picked up where she left off in the circle, picking up two strikeouts and retiring Oklahoma State in order for the second straight inning.Â
- Senior Presley Limbaugh led off the top of the fourth with an infield single, but the next three Jayhawk hitters struck out to end the inning.Â
- In the bottom of the fourth, Oklahoma State created their first threat after a walk, single and a hit by pitch loaded the bases with one out. The next batter, left fielder Tia Warsop, hit a single through the right side of the infield, scoring two runs and giving Oklahoma State a 2-0 lead. With runners on second and third and one out, catcher Audrey Schneidmiller extended the Cowgirl lead with another two-run single making the score 4-0. With two outs, senior shortstop Hailey Cripe made a spectacular diving catch on a line drive hit over her head to end the inning.Â
- After Kansas went down in order in the top of the fifth, Oklahoma State right fielder Claire Timm led the bottom of the fifth off with a home run to right field. Two batters later, with one out, third baseman Rosie Davis hit the second Cowgirl home run of the inning, making the score 6-0.Â
- The Jayhawks threatened in the top of the sixth as Stafford hit a double to deep center field with one out. With two outs, junior Anna Soles got Kansas on the board with a double to left-center field, scoring Stafford and making the score 6-1.Â
- In the bottom of the sixth, Oklahoma State hit back-to-back solo home runs from pinch hitter Madison Hoffman and shortstop Aubrey Jones.Â
