LAWRENCE, Kan. – Dominic Voegele threw his first career complete game and No. 11 Kansas Baseball extended its winning streak to eight games with a series opening 4-2 victory against Arizona on Friday night at a sold out Hoglund Ballpark. Voegele matched his career high with 15 strikeouts and tossed the first complete game by a Jayhawk since 2023.
Â
Kansas improved to 35-11 overall this season and 18-4 in conference play with the victory. The Jayhawks are now 10-0 at Hoglund Ballpark in Big 12 play and 16-2 at home overall. KU has won 19 of its last 20 games.
Â
Friday night was a pitcher's duel between both team's aces. Voegele turned in his fourth straight quality start and earned his fifth win of the season. He retired the final 10 batters of the game. Voegele's 15 strikeouts pushed his career total to 253 which ranks fourth in school history. He only allowed two runs on six hits and one walk.
Â
Arizona's Owen Kramkowski was going toe-to-toe with Voegele for the first five innings as he struck out 11 Jayhawks. The Kansas offense elevated Kramkowski's pitch count and forced the Wildcats to go to their bullpen after five frames.
Â
Each time Arizona scored, Kansas had an answer.
Jordan Bach hit a solo home run in the third inning,
Cade Baldridge delivered a two-run single in the fifth inning and
Brady Ballinger brought in the final run on a sacrifice fly.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"Dom was great. Obviously, 15 punch outs in a game in two of the last three weekends, so it's pretty special how he's throwing right now. He definitely wanted the ball in the ninth and I loved the way the guys grinded through it and got us enough runs to let him get the win. It was a huge start, given the fact that offensively we scuffled early on against Kramkowski. He was good, you talk about two Friday night aces dueling it out. For Dom to be able to throw up zeroes and keep it at 1-1 until we were able to break it open a little bit in the fifth was huge because Kramkowski had us fooled for a while." – Head Coach
Dan Fitzgerald
Â
"My arm was feeling good. It felt good going into those last two innings or else the coaches wouldn't have let me go back out there. Everything was feeling good. I felt like all my pitches were working the way that they should." –
Dominic Voegele
