Â
Kansas improved to 36-11 overall this season and 19-4 in conference play with the victory. The Jayhawks are now 11-0 at Hoglund Ballpark in Big 12 play and 17-2 at home overall.
Â
Mason Cook started for Kansas on Saturday afternoon and gave the Jayhawks exactly what they needed. Cook matched his career high with six innings and allowed only one run to go along with seven strikeouts. He retired a stretch of eight consecutive batters in the middle of his outing. Toby Scheidt, Riane Ritter and Boede Rahe each threw a scoreless inning of relief.
Â
Josh Dykhoff hit his 10th home run in the win and Tyson LeBlanc finished with three hits. Kansas has three hitters with at least 10 home runs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2003-04.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Kansas got out to an early first inning lead. The Jayhawks scored a run on a Brady Ballinger sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 advantage.
• The Jayhawks jumped on the Wildcats for four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The inning started with three consecutive doubles and then a home run. Dariel Osoria started the inning with a leadoff double. Tyson Owens and Augusto Mungarrieta followed with back-to-back RBI doubles. Dykhoff stepped up to the plate next and crushed a two-run homer to right field. Kansas led 5-0 after four innings.
• Arizona (16-29, 7-16 Big 12) picked up a run in the sixth inning to make it 5-1.
• KU got two runs in the bottom of the eighth to provide a little cushion. Cade Baldridge brought in a run on an RBI fielder's choice and Tyson LeBlanc dropped down a two-out RBI bunt single. That gave Kansas a 7-1 edge.
• The Wildcats added a run in the ninth to bring the game to the final score of 7-2.

QUOTABLES & NOTABLES
"I thought Cookie was awesome. He gave us six strong and I just thought he was really good. He picked up right where Dom left off yesterday and was able to get some early strikeouts and we were able to get on the board early. Then, obviously the fourth was big for us. Thought it was a great effort. We limited free stuff to them, which we knew was going to be critical to not give them anything and they showed last night they've got some juice in their lineup. Loved the effort and loved the intensity. I thought our dugout was awesome. I thought we prepared really well and our bullpen guys were great." – Head Coach Dan Fitzgerald
Â
"[The mindset is] get guys out. It's that simple. No matter what spot you're in. It doesn't really change or anything. Just go in there, get a first pitch strike and get guys out. First guy out is a big thing in the bullpen area and it transfers to the starting role. Get the first guy out and let it roll." – Mason Cook
Â
"I think hitting is just contagious. It's just that energy kind of throughout the dugout. Then, you get those guys in there with a lot of swings in a row too. It wasn't like we were having bad at-bats, it was like swing, swing, swing. It's just something that seems to happen in baseball." – Josh Dykhoff
