LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas senior Will King has been named the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for men's golf, winning the award for the second-consecutive season. The conference announced their postseason awards on Monday afternoon.
An Olathe, Kansas native and graduate of Rockhurst High School, King is the only Kansas golfer to win the Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. He becomes the second golfer in Big 12 history to earn this award in back-to-back seasons, joining Johnny Keefer of Baylor, who won it three-straight years (2022, 2023, 2024). King has maintained a 4.0 grade point average during his four years at KU while majoring in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology.Â
"This is a very deserving award for Will," Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. "He has worked hard in the classroom and on the golf course throughout his time at KU. Will has set a very high standard for Kansas men's golf by graduating in four years as a straight-A student, while also being the number one player on our team and the team leader."
King has competed in 11-of-12 events this season for the Jayhawks, recording two top five finishes, five top 10 finishes, and seven top 20 finishes. He also carded 18 rounds under-par and nine rounds in the 60's. During the Ka'anapali Classic back in November, King broke the program record for lowest 54-hole score, with scores of 68-65-66 (199).
King and the Jayhawks are set to compete in the NCAA Athens Regionals from May 18-20 at the University of Georgia Golf Course.
