LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas soccer moved up in the national rankings this week, jumping up to No. 12 in the Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Organization for Coaches (IWSOC) DI Top 25 Coaches Poll in partnership with United Soccer Coaches.
In addition to the IWSOC ranking, the Jayhawks have earned a No. 12 national ranking from TopDrawerSoccer this week.
The No. 12 ranking by IWSOC, formerly known as the United Soccer Coaches poll, is KU's highest ranking under third-year head coach Nate Lie. The Jayhawks moved up in this weeks' rankings after being ranked No. 15 in the preseason poll, which was the highest preseason ranking in program history.
Kansas began the season with a 2-0 record which included shutout wins over Utah State (Aug. 12) and at Missouri State (Aug. 16). This marks the first time since 2020 that KU has started a season with back-to-back shutout victories. The Jayhawks' seven goals scored against the Bears are the program's most ever against a Division I opponent, and the most scored on the road in program history.
Junior midfielder London De Fini was named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week on Tuesday. She scored one goal and set new career highs with three assists and five points in KU's win at Missouri State on Sunday. She anchored the defense in both shutout wins to open the season and was a part of the defensive effort that conceded just one shot against MSU, tying a program record for the fewest number of shots conceded.
Next up for No. 12 Kansas is a trip to Columbus, Ohio to take on No. 19 Ohio State on Thursday, August 20. The match is slated to begin at 4 p.m. CT.
