Bio

Chris Hughes joined the Kansas Athletics department in a full-time role in July 2024 and serves athletics and the larger Jayhawk community by creating moments to build visibility, support and organizational engagement. Chris also supports KU LEADS by leading groups of student-athletes through their Leadership Academy programming and advising student-led groups like Athlete Ally and RISE.

Before taking on his current role, Chris was a McLendon Fellow for Kansas Athletics, from 2022 to June 2024. The McLendon Leadership Initiative is a non-profit program that helps people from marginalized communities work in college athletics. During this time Chris was a Student-Athlete Development Specialist and an Inclusive Excellence Specialist.

The Killeen, Texas, native received academic honors, watch list mentions and was named captain of the KU football team from 2018 to 2021. He graduated from KU in 2020 with a degree in business management and a certificate in entrepreneurship in 2021.
