Darius Carey joined the Kansas football staff as a defensive analyst in 2026, working primarily with the Kansas defensive line.
Carey joins Kansas after serving as defensive line coach at Henderson State during the 2025 season. Prior to Henderson State, he spent four seasons coaching the defensive line at Bemidji State, where he helped guide one of the top defenses in NCAA Division II.
During the 2024 season, the Beavers ranked among the nation's leaders in total defense, rushing defense, scoring defense, sacks, and tackles for loss. Under his direction, multiple defensive linemen earned all-conference recognition, including a conference Defensive Player of the Year, a Harlon Hill Trophy finalist, and a Gene Upshaw Award finalist.
Before returning to Bemidji State, Carey served as an assistant defensive line coach at Abilene Christian during the 2021 season. Working with the Wildcats' defensive front, he helped a defense that ranked among the top units in the Western Athletic Conference in takeaways and rushing defense.
Carey's coaching career began at Quincy University, where he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant coach from 2017-19. In addition to working with the defensive line, he assisted with recruiting operations, strength and conditioning, and equipment management. During his tenure, Quincy defensive linemen earned multiple All-Great Lakes Valley Conference honors.
A former standout defensive lineman, Carey was a four-year starter at Quincy from 2013-16. He earned All-GLVC honors during his playing career and finished with 130 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.
A native of Ferguson, Missouri, Carey earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Quincy University in 2017 before completing a master's degree in education in 2019.
