🏈 Pooka Williams Jr., Breaks 1,000 Yards in Back-to-Back Seasons

Kansas Jayhawks

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Sophomore running back Pooka Williams Jr., accomplished a feat that has only been done once before in Kansas football history on Saturday, as he surpassed the 1,000 yard mark in back-to-back seasons, joining James Sims as the only other Jayhawk to rush for 1,000 or more yards in consecutive seasons.

Williams, of New Orleans, La., is no stranger to setting accolades, as during his freshman season he was the third freshman in KU history to rush for 1,000 or more yards in a single season. Williams finished the season with 1,125 yards on 161 carries and seven touchdowns, making him one of the top young rushers in the nation.

This year, Williams further proved what he is capable of, as he became the second Jayhawk to break 2,000 career yards in his first two seasons, joining Jayhawk legend Gale Sayers as the only Jayhawks to accomplish the feat.

On Saturday, Williams broke the 1,000 rushing yards plateau, becoming just the second Jayhawk in KU history to rush for 1,000 or more yards in back-to-back seasons, the first since James Sims (2012-13) and the fourth Jayhawk to break 1,000 or more season rushing yards more than once in their KU career.
