WICHITA, Kan. – After holding its opponent scoreless and earning a walk-off victory in its last contest, Kansas saw the reverse happen in a nine-inning walk-off defeat at Wichita State, falling to the Shockers 11-10 at Wilkins Stadium.

The Jayhawks fielded a 9-8 advantage heading into the seventh inning after Wichita State tacked on three runs in the sixth inning.

Miranda Rodriguez led off the top of the seventh after being hit by a pitch, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later Shelby Hughston singled up the middle and plated Rodriguez from second.

Kansas now held a 10-8 advantage and looked to Brynn Minor to close out the game. Minor earned the start in the circle and pitched the first 1.2 innings and reentered in the seventh inning.

Wichita State plated two additional runs in the seventh to force the game to extra innings.

After a scoreless eighth inning by both teams, Kansas did not plate any runs in the top of the ninth.

The Shockers started the bottom half of the inning with a single up the middle and advanced the runner to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Another single put runners on first and third, and in the next at bat, Wichita State hit a single to shallow left field to earn the victory.

Freshman Morgyn Wynne earned the first KU runs with a grand slam in the third inning after Wichita State took a five-run lead in the second.

Kansas earned its highest scoring inning two innings later in the fifth, tallying five runs and extending their lead to 9-5 before the Wichita State comeback.

Minor pitched 4.1 innings and earned the loss. Sophomore Tarin Travieso tallied 4.0 innings pitched and allowed only two earned runs with two strikeouts.

NOTES
- Kansas tallied a season-high 14Â hits against Wichita State. The Jayhawks previous season-high was 12 hits at Duke on March 2.
- The Jayhawks scored a season-high five runs in the fifth inning, and finished with 8-or-more runs in back-to-back games for the first time this season. The last time Kansas accomplished the feat was against Northern Colorado (8-3) and Western Illinois (8-0) on March 15, 2018.
- KU scored 10-or-more runs for the first time since Feb. 25, 2018 at Central Arkansas. The Jayhawks tallied 12 runs in the contest.
- Morgyn Wynne hit Kansas’ first grand slam of the season in the third inning.

Kansas hosts Green Bay for a three-game series March 22-23 at Arrocha Ballpark. The Jayhawks and Phoenix are slated to play a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m. on March 22 and conclude the series with a single game on March 23 at 2 p.m.
